QLD: Aboriginal Hostels Limited launches new Iris Clay Hostel in Townsville this week
Source: AHL After a 3.4 Million dollar re-build, the Iris Clay Hostel, located in Townsville, Queensland is to operate from a newly built facility on the site of the old hostel.
The newly rebuilt Iris Clay Hostel has 18 rooms, offering short-term accommodation for up 40 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples every day.
The Hostel, originally opened in 1977, closed its doors in May 2004 for a rebuild. It re-opened in September this year and the official opening of the new Hostel will be on 23rd November 2005.
The hostel was originally named to honour Iris Clay; a courageous campaigner for her people뭩 legal rights and social welfare in many capacities throughout Northern Queensland, particularly on Palm Island
