How To Enjoy Hostel !! > Safety

Wilderness and safety

The great outdoors stay warm, dry, and stay hydrated. The majority of life threatening wilderness situation happen because of disregard to these simple rules. On any hike no matter if it is a brief one; you should carry enough equipment to keep you alive if such a disaster occurred. This includes a raingear, hat and mittens, first aid kit, reflector, whistle, high-energy food, and extra water. Dress in warm cloth; never rely on cotton to do any good on any of these situations. Let someone know when you go hiking and at what time you expect to be back. Environmentally Responsible Tourism the idea is to leave to trace of human presence behind. A camp stove is a more efficient and safer way to cook rather than using vegetation, but if you must make fire, make small one and only use dead wood. Keep away from any water supply and any human waste should be buried appropriately. Always pack your trash in a plastic bag and carry it with you until you reach to a proper garbage can.

Wildlife:

In the USA you will find different kind if climates with different kind of dangerous wildlife. If you are going hiking, be aware of all risks and ask a local ranger for information. If you are hiking in an area known to have bears, keep you distance no matter how adorable they may look, they are powerful and you run serious risk of harm if around them. If you encounter yourself with one, keep your calm and slowly move away from them. Poisonous snakes are hazardous in many wild regions in the US and Canada and be cautiously avoided. The two most dangerous ones are the coral and rattle snakes. Do not attempt to handle or kill a snake, if you see one back away watchfully. If bitten by one of these poisonous snakes apply a pressure bandage and ice to the wound and immobilize the limb and seek immediate medical attention if the snake breaks the skin. The mountains are the moose's play grounds. These big animals have been known to charge at humans, so never feed, walk toward, or throw anything at a moose. If one charges towards you, get behind a tree, or get on the ground in fetal position.
