Weimar is largely a preserve of the 1700s and 1800s. The surrounding castle and park lands are dominating the landscape. The steady influx of the young, the students, the culturally and historically interested keeps the city from being a museum and generates an intense mixture in contrast to the historic nostalgia of the setting.

Weimar is a small city on the way from Frankfurt to Berlin, Leipzig or Dresden. It is one of the most "atmospheric" places in Germany. Historic buildings abound.

Weimar also accomodates university faculties of art, architecture, civil engineering, media and music.

Other points of Interest are the historic sites that remember persons like Bach, Liszt, Nietzsche, Martin Luther, Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Van de Velde, Gropius, Kandinsky and Klee as well as phenomena like the concentration camp ?žBuchenwald?? the ?œWeimar Republik??an Modern Art and Architecture.

The hostel is non-profit and student run. The 200 year old baroque building is part of the old town center. It has not been modernized!

A dormbed is 10Euro a night in a double room is 15Euro p.p.; a single room is 15Euro, Linen 2,5Euro. You are welcome to bring your own.
There are two toilets, two showers and one washroom on the guest floor. There are no sinks in the rooms. Bring a padlock to use the lockers.

Stop by on the way from FRANKFURT to DRESDEN or PRAGUE to BERLIN:

Look out for the small "gem" cities like: Gent (Belgium), Regensburg (Bavaria), Potsdam, Quedlinburg, Erfurt and ... WEIMAR.

Arriving by car: Coming from the autobahn fol-low the main road into the city. When the street ends in a "T"crossing turn left. Follow the street as it bends left. Turn right at the next stoplight. Follow the street through another left bend and turn right immediately afterwards (at the lights) into -Heinrich-Heine-Strasse- Turn right into small "Geleitstra©¬e"just behind the following light. Take care to turn right after 200m again (as the street ahead has a different name).

Arriving by train: Take bus No.1,5,6,7 or 8 or walk downhill to Goetheplatz (less than 15 minutes on foot). Turn left into Geleitstra©¬e. Take care to turn right again after 200m (as the street ahead has a different name).


You will find the entrance of the pastel-pink building to your left a few steps from the street behind a fountain and somewhat hidden beneath vines.
